MERCURY:

 

Have you ever wondered why we communicate easily with some people and not others?  Well perhaps, the planet Mercury can explain why:

 

Mercury is concerned with communications of all kinds.  It, represents the ability to speak, write, to be understood and get messages across to others.  Mercury describes the way we learn and communicate. 

 

Mercury in fire signs (aries, leo and sagittarius) is visual,fast and and innovative, but usually not practical; in air signs (gemini, libra and aquarius), extremely quick, inventive and versatile; in earth signs (taurus, virgo and capricorn), Mercury is much slower, practical and methodical;  in water signs (cancer, scorpio and pisces), through feelings, intuition and creativity. 

 

For example, let's imagine a parent with "Mercury in Aries", assisting their child who has "Mercury in Taurus" with their homework.  The parent is likely to become impatient as the child learns at a slow pace (than themselves) and may need information or theories explained more than once. Therefore, the child cannot grasp the information fast enough to please the parent and becomes overwhelmed, hurt ,confused and none the wiser!  Communication breakdown!

 

Im mythology, Mercury was the messenger of the gods, whose winged sandals and helmet assured him great speed.

 

Mercury rules both the signs Gemini and Virgo (this means it is at home in these signs).  In Gemini it collects information for the sake of knowledge, in Virgo it makes use of the knowledge in a practical and orderly way.

 

Mercury rules Wednesday and can be honoured by connecting through communication.  Organise meetings, interviews, important phone calls and travel plans on this day.

 

There are about three periods each year when planet Mercury retrogrades, and each one lasts about three weeks. During Mercury retrograde: Mercury appears, from Earth's vantage point, to move backward.  When Mercury is retrograding we are likely to experience difficulties through communications eg. our phones may cease to work, computers crash, details in contracts need to be checked.  Travel, wedding or party plans may be disrupted or delayed,  mail can be lost.  Sometimes we have trouble speaking clearly or we are misunderstood!  Surprisingly, retrograde periods can be extremely useful.  They can give us a chance to slow down and really look at who we are, what we value, where we are coming from and how we express ourselves.  A Mercury retrograde period is a good time to research, get organised and make plans rather than taking action.  Commence action when Mercury turns direct. 

 

Mercury in ARIES:  “We think your great, but we can’t get a word in.”    There’s no point in saying "think before you speak", you speak and then think!  Impulsive and enthusiastic about sharing ideas and starting new projects.  Beware of over committing yourself and not finishing what you've started.  You are likely to lack attention to detail,a Mercury in Virgo person would be a very good assistant for you.  Your enthusiasm motivates others and young people are attracted to you throughout your life.  You appear forever young and you like to make people laugh.  A dislike for opposition or delays, try to go with the flow.

 

Mercury in TAURUS:  “You're the quiet-achiever, it’s your way or the highway”.   Once your mind is made up you don’t change it easily, you can be stubborn.  You like to be self-supporting and independent at an early age.  You’re a deep thinker and once a concept is grasped you don’t forget it.  A good memory for dates, names, places and facts .  Shrewdly, you qualify a project before taking it on.  You ask yourself, is there enough money or cudos in it for me.  A tendency to keep your ideas to yourself.  Your quiet and reserved with strangers but quite the opposite, fun and outgoing with those close to you. You appear very cool and are a person of few words.

 

Mercury in GEMINI:  "You have the answer to everything, a real know-it-all."  Mercury rules Gemini, you think quickly, your bright, playful and change your opinion and attitude constantly.  Like a butterfly, you gather all sorts of information, a good partner to have for 'Trivial Pursuit', or consider auditioning as a contestant for the 'Sale Of The Century' quiz show.  You would make a good writer, filmmaker, photographer or teacher.  A boring job or dull relationship is not for you.  Your very funny and entertaining and tell great stories about people and places you've been.  Sometimes you will take the other side of an argument just to 'stir' those around you.  There is nothing ordinary or quiet about you!

 

Mercury in CANCER:  "Which mood are you in today, feeling crabby?"  You express yourself through your feelings and often you begin a sentence with "I feel". You speak with emotion and have the ability to arouse the sympathies of others through your storytelling.  This gift must be used wisely.  You have an excellent memory and like to look back to 'days gone by' in a sentimental and nostalgic way.  A strong imagination, an interest in writing children's stories, romantic or historical novels may bring success.  Beware, of worrying about details, learn to relax.  Highly intuitive and a strong interest in the psychic sciences.  You are very sensitive, gentle and children love being in your company.

 

Mercury in Leo:  "Let's face it it is all about you, you and you......"   Warm, well spoken and a convincing speaker, you love attention!  You make exciting and dramatic entertainers, actors / actresses.  A natural enthusiasm about everything you have to say, but you don't know when to stop!  You are a good planner and practical and have lots of enthusiasm and mental energy to pour into projects.  You can be subborn or inflexible, take time to listen to other people's opinions.  Beware of gambling it could get you into trouble, as well as debt.  A love of children brings out your childlike qualities and a choice of teaching as a career would give you the chance to play.  Romance is important and needs to be kept alive in your relationship, you love to love.

 

Mercury in VIRGO:  "Yes, we believe you, we know nothing...... you're the expert!"   Mercury is in an energetic mood in Virgo, being the second sign it rules.  A strong quest for knowledge you literally devour a subject quickly and thoroughly.  A desire to use your mind to organise and improve the world.  You like to keep busy and have the ability to cope with a huge amount of details.  Caution against being intolerant of those who are slower to learn.  A logical and systematic mind with a love of computers and electronic devices.  You enjoy conversations with all types of people.  Your interest in health and diet can take you into a career in the fitness industry or the medical profession.  Exercise is necessary to relieve stress in your life.

 

Mercury in LIBRA:  "When will you make up your mind?"  Kindness, sympathy and consideration are enhanced and you can be romantic and overly-optimistic about life. Creative, writing talent and an excellent speaker.  You are flexible and willing to listen to both sides of an argument and can find your self agreeing with both sides. This confuses you and everyone else.  Though, you can be very persuasive with a logical and well balanced mind.  There is a need to please everyone, try pleasing yourself first.  You require a partner who is articulate and intellectually stimulating.  Caution against attracting someone who is unreliable or unable to make a committment.   Your friends usually come to you with their 'troubles', you would make a good counsellor!

 

Mercury in SCORPIO:  "Have you been going through my things!  You're becoming paranoid."  You like to delve, like a detective!  Excellent researchers, analysts, journalists, psychologists, attracted to the unknown, hidden and the psychic sciences.  Surprisingly, you would do well in engineering or mechanical repairs.  Your mind is like a steel trap!  Mercury in scorpio gives you a sense of purpose and determination.  A good memory, perceptive and an intuitive approach rather than following a logical path.  People reveal their secrets to you easily, partners can find you invasive.  You convey a knowingness without saying a thing.  Highly intuitive, you pick up on the weaknesses of others, try to resist wounding them.  Learn to trust and accept that maybe we will never know everything about one another.

 

Mercury in SAGITTARIUS: "You are impossible to pin down!" Mercury in PISCES:  "Where am I? What day is it?  And who am I?"  You are extremely sensitive, intuitive with a strong imagination and love fantasy. Your sensitivity and gentleness leads you to nurture and heal others.  Inclined toward  music or a  poetic, romantic writing career.  You have a tendency to retreat from the world when life becomes too harsh to handle.  Reading stories about people, watching movies and plays, this is your way of learning more about people and life.  You are more in tune with your psychic abilities than your intellect, this can make you appear a little vague and as if you have emerged from a different era or other world.
