THE MOON

Since the beginning of time early “Man” has gazed towards the sky and pondered the mysteries of the Moon and the stars in the night sky. The Aztecs and the ancient Chinese in 3000BC charted the moon cycles.  These cycles were used as a guide  for planting and harvesting.

The moon’s orbit takes 1 month (or 27.3 days precisely).  It spends 2 ½ days in each astrological sign.  When the moon is in Aries we feel assertive and can act impulsively, moon in Taurus spoil yourself by surrounding yourself with beauty and luxury, moon in Gemini allows communication to flow, catch up with friends, moon in Cancer, enjoy your home, nurture yourself and connect with loved ones, moon in Leo allow your inner child to play.  It’s a time to get organised when the moon resides in Virgo, we experience co-operation and harmony in relationships when the moon is in Libra, when the moon is in Scorpio the emotions are strong and resist stinging someone, moon in Sagittarius explore new interests and make travel arrangements, moon in Capricorn a time to get down to work.  When the moon visits Aquarius new and amazing ideas come to us easily and when the moon is in Pisces we experience sensitivity, compassion and prophetic dreams.

Eight phases make up the Moon’s monthly cycle; new moon, crescent moon, first quarter, gibbous, full moon, disseminating moon, last quarter, balsamic moon.  It waxes (or increases) from the New Moon to the Full Moon and then wanes (or reduces) through to the Balsamic or Dark Moon phase prior to it’s rebirth at the new Moon.

By gazing at the Moon, notice how it’s cycles affect your moods and energy levels.  The New Moon is the perfect time to focus on manifesting your hopes, desires and new projects.  The Full Moon is a time for healing and releasing what is now completed.   Wearing a Moonstone enhances your connection with the Moon’s divine magic.  I am wearing a moonstone as I write.

It is documented that during a full moon responsible people can behave irrationally, arguments flair up and crime increases.  The word “Lunar” Latin for  “moon” becomes “lunatic”, describes a person who behaves in a reckless or irresponsible manner.

The Moon is a quarter of the size of the Earth.  It’s planetary size is 2,160 miles in diameter.

The Moon rules water, oceans (tides), liquid, silver, visible beauty (your features), your Mother and Mothering.

Associated in Greek mythology with the 3 faces of the Goddess; the Maiden (and daughter), the Mother and the Crone (or Wise woman, Grandmother).   The Moon represents the feminine energy which implodes and the Sun represents the male energy which explodes out into the world.

The Moon in a person’s chart symbolises and describes your specific emotional needs, how you meet these needs, emotional responses, what nourishes you, your early experience of Mother, your need for family, your inner child, your spiritual ancestry.

Monday is the day of the Moon, and can be honoured by listening to our needs and nurturing your inner child.

The sign your moon is in colours both the way you experience and express your emotions and needs.

People with their Moon in a water sign (pisces, cancer and scorpio) have a need for connection through relationships with others.  People with air Moon’s (aquarius, gemini and libra) need to communicate and to be understood to feel secure.  They can often be out of touch with their emotions.  Material security is important to Earth signs moons (taurus, virgo and capricorn) and physical comfort, as is a need to be useful in order to feel nourished.  Fire sign Moon’s (aries, leo and sagittarius) tend to express emotions in a dramatic and explosive way and  a strong need for recognition and validation.  They thrive on the ’stage’ as actors and entertainers.

Family is important and pets are treated as family members.  A garden gives great pleasure or living on the land.  A love of music and often a beautiful voice or talented musically.  Moon in Taurus folk experienced positions of great wealth and material security in past lives, therefore they came into this incarnation desiring material security above all else.  This lifetime your self worth may depend on how much material security you have acquired, you are challenged to believe in yourself and develop the talents and gifts which God bestowed upon you.

Moon in Gemini

Clever, charming, witty, chatterboxes.

A constant need to learn and a strong desire for knowledge.  Moon in Gemini has to learn to be honest with people, rather than to tell them what they wish to hear.  Very versatile, they can find themselves acquiring 2 careers, 2 relationships, 2 cars, 2 of most things. They make talented writers, journalists and teachers.  But can find close emotional relationships difficult as they can be out of touch with their emotions.  In past lives they were travellers, wandering minstrels or teachers, which explains their restless nature.  Therefore, Gemini Moon people may find it difficult to settle down to one person.

Moon in Cancer

The Moon is Cancer’s ruling planet, the Moon is happy here.  They have a retentive memory but must learn to forgive and forget, past hurts.  Mother is a strong influence for better or worse.  They insist that they like a quiet, peaceful life, but attract the ’spotlight’ instead.  These people are naturally psychic, have vivid imaginations and prophetic dreams.  Home and family are important, natural homemakers

and highly creative individuals. They can appear dreamy like the moon itself.

Moon in Virgo

Trustworthy, hard-working, practical, reserved, neat.

A preference for routines, excellent managers, organisers, teachers, editors, layout designers, writers. When in love they demonstrate their feelings through actions rather than words eg. they may clean the home, rather than verbally express their feelings. These people are reserved when in love and only express their emotions when they are somewhat certain as to how they will be received, rather than feel foolish.  They enjoy health foods and plain foods.  Exercise and vitamin supplements are on the agenda.  Past lives spent as doctors, nurses, healers or as a nun, has given an over-developed need for perfection and a wonderful need to serve others.  This lifetime allows you to relax and trust that everything in the universe is unfolding in perfect order, surrender and let go.

In order to value themselves they think they need validation from others, selecting their friends carefully, is a necessity.  In this lifetime your lesson is to learn to express yourself and to “be” yourself within a relationship.  To do this, you must become aware of what your emotional needs are and learn to meet them yourself, otherwise your relationship will suffer.  Past lives were spent in positions of support as diplomats, mediators, concubines and female supporting roles i.e. As a wife or Mother.

Moon in Capricorn’s take pride in their work and want recognition for their accomplishments.  Early in life, they can appear charming and confident yet inwardly they can have strong feelings of inadequacy and can worry what others think.  They need to guard against being emotionally controlling in relationships as this can lead to unhappiness and emotional isolation.  Mother may have been emotionally unavailable or a disciplinarian, which would result in early feelings of rejection.  They can fear not being able to fulfil their partners needs emotionally.  Though, they have a well developed sense of duty and responsibility.  Often their early years can be emotionally unrewarding, Capricorn moon people tend to lighten up and let go of structure and find happiness later in life.  Past lives spent in positions of authority and control have led to the belief that in order to feel  emotionally secure you have to be in total control. This is due to lifetimes spent as figureheads and political leaders.  By simply expressing your feelings in the moment, you integrate your male and female parts and bring about balance  “control (male) and emotion (feminine)“.

These people like to work for those less fortunate.  If the Moon is afflicted they can resort to overindulgence of alcohol or drugs. They can be emotional, and have bouts of crying and self pity.  A visit to the sea, nature brings them into balance, as does music.  A great love of animals.  In past lives, they developed a naïve and idealistic approach to life due to lives spent in monasteries and convents.  Other people set their routine and prepared their meals. This lifetime, Moon in Pisces are meant to set their own routine, be on time and take care of their own material needs.
